Performance Cycling classes at Station Mill are a hit. With a bespoke purpose built cycling studio, indoor cycling has never been so fun. These performance classes are not just for experienced cyclists, we welcome any keen participant to the open level classes. Forget everything you thought you knew, this is not a spinning class. Below we set out what makes the SkillBike the top choice for indoor cycling.
NOT JUST AN EXERCISE BIKE BUT A RACING BIKE
THIS IS NOT SPINNING
We have nothing against spinning but SkillBike is completely different. We like to think of Spinning as an “exercise to music” class. Your cycling efficiency is not tracked. Performance Cycling is driven by data with instructors who are there to support sustainable targets. And we don’t dance, our music aids concentration and can help push you that extra mile.
RESULTS DRIVEN BY DATA
The built-in LCD colour console shows all the information you need to monitor your ride in real time and to improve cycling. Cadence, power and speed are displayed, along with pedalling circularity and symmetry in different gears: these are just some of the parameters that are constantly monitored on the SKILLBIKE indoor cycle, with a view to boosting performance efficiency
OUTDOOR AND INDOOR UNITE WITH SKILLBIKE
Skillbike provides an array of biofeedback that can be used to benchmark and progress. You can even assess pedal-strokes, smooth pedalling, higher cadence, better pedalling whilst descending, effective monitoring of heart rate variability and improving power output. In cycling, we use Functional Threshold Power – FTP, and the Technogym FTP test is easily accessed. The Cycling coaches at Station Mill will be happy to book this test in for you when you are ready to start.
Functional Threshold Power – FTP is the average power you can hold on a bike for 60 minutes before “blowing up”. For practicality, we use a 20 minute test and use 95% of this extrapolated to 60minutes. All power mode training on Skillbike uses FTP, and Skillbike Performance Classes follow FTP training zones. Repeating the FTP every 6-8 weeks keeps training effective.
