Helen teaches Pilates on a Monday morning at 0930 & Fridays at 1100.
Starting as a Pilates Teacher Helen’s deep interest in the holistic approach to functional body movement led her to training as Sports Massage Therapist in 2019. Helen’s classes are interesting, mindful and friendly. Her class is known as “Classic Pilates” and she welcomes all levels and abilities. We took some time out with Helen to ask her why she teaches and to let you get to know her a little better…
(Helen): I’ve always had a keen interest in keeping active and enjoy a healthy outdoor lifestyle whether it be running with my Ridgeback, cycling or participating in a variety of watersports. In 2015 I decided to leave my desk job and trained as a Pilates instructor and have never looked back. I love helping people feel great about themselves through controlled exercise in a social environment and get huge satisfaction when my clients feel the benefits! Although delivered in a classic Pilates style, I try to include a variety of individual elements using a range of small equipment to keep things interesting.
Helen runs her practise as a mobile therapist, however you can also find her on Thursdays in Room 4 of our medical floor. She works with injury prevention and rehabilitation, her understanding of exercise as a form of remedy enables her to assist with your flexibility and reduce muscle tension. I asked her what she enjoys the most as a therapist:
(Helen): I was eager to learn more about the muscles of the body, how they worked intrinsically with each other and ultimately to help people with injuries to realign their bodies. I trained in 2019 and now enjoy the one-to-one element of getting to know people and discovering how their different lifestyles have a huge affect on how their bodies work.
